*WHEN YOU WERE THERE*
Episode 30
.... Mona,
I know this is...

    Kester stop!
Mona interrupted laughing.

   Sorry Kester,
I didn't hear all you just said, can you repeat it?
Mona said still laughing, as tears began to flow down her eyes.

Remember the night you were supposed to go for a vigil?
And I visited you with an hollandia yoghurt, telling you I'll be traveling same night to see my parents?
Kester said, shaking in his voice.

Mona was watching with open mouth in tears.

I drugged that yoghurt and came back to rape you,

That was shortly before I got saved.
 Kester said and paused.

Mona looked at Golden who was crying,
She was confused and don't know what to do.

   She bursted into loud cry,
Holding golden tight in her chest and cuddling her.

    Jeeeeesus!!!!
She cried uncontrollable.

Kester just bowed his head in shame.

   Are you truly Felix's brother?
Mona asked, raising her tearful eyes to look at Kester.

    Yes,
And he's aware.
Kester responded.

   Mona,
Golden is my daughter.
Kester added.

    You bastard!!
Mona screamed,
Landing a very hot slap on Kester's face.

   Get ooouuuut!
She shouted.

Kester stood up, holding his chin.

    Mona am sorry.
Kester said and Mona landed another resounding slap on his face.

    Leave this moment!!!
Mona screamed.
And this attracted the attention of staffs in the hospital, they came out.

    Oouuuttt!!!!
Mona screamed with her last strength, holding Golden tight and crying so loud.

   Please leave.
The doctor ushered Kester out of the ward.

Mona held Golden tight in her chest, crying profusely.

    Jeeesssssusss!!!
Why Lord!

What's going on with my life??

Where have I lost it Lord??

Why don't I seem to find complete happiness???

Don't I deserve to be happy..?
She said weeping bitterly.

The doctor asked all the nurses to excuse him and he sat close to Mona.

   Please calm down,
He tried to speak.
But Mona began to pack her things weeping, she arranged all her things.

   Mona,
You can't leave in this state of mind,
I won't allow you to.
The doctor said to her.

Mona after she was done arranging her things, took Golden and sat, crying, not knowing what next to do.

Kester got out of the hospital and went to Mona's house, hoping she will come.

The doctor managed to take Mona into his office.

All Mona could say as she wept was
Jesssuss,
Jesssus,
Jeeeesus,
And this broke the doctor's heart.

Golden was crying and Mona could not pet her.

   This is serious!
I have never seen someone cry so bitterly.
The doctor said to Mona after all failed attempts to console her.

   Come with me,
Let's go to my house.
He furthered taking Mona's things.

They drove to his house and Mona kept crying all the way till they got to his house.

It was a very big house and his lovely wife came out to welcome her husband.

She was surprise to see Mona.

   The couples are both believers.

  The wife quickly hugged Mona,
Collecting the baby who was still crying from her, she sat Mona down.

   Daddy welcome,
She greeted her husband.

Please can you get her cold drink, any fruit juice please.
He said to his confused wife who was looking around.

She got up to get the drink, and the doctor sat watching Mona who would not stop crying.

If you continue like this, you'll have a migraine.
He warned, offering her a handkerchief.

The wife returned with the juice, and Mona collected it, keeping it down, she kept sobbing.

   Daddy,
Who's she and what's the matter with her?
The wife asked her husband.

Her daughter is my patient and she was one time an auxiliary nurse in my clinic,
and what the matter is, is what am yet to find out.
He replied.

   My dear,
Please calm down.
The doctor's wife said to Mona.

What's really the matter with you?
She inquired, looking keen at Mona.

She had handed Golden over to her maid to fed and take care of her.

Felix had arrived Edo state and headed straight to Mona's place.

    I am Mona,
Mona Lisa Vooli.
Mona struggled to start.

... I lost my parents when I was just 3years old.
She said, using the soaked handkerchief in her hand to wipe the unending tears.

I am the only child of my late parents.

And was only 3 when they died.

No memory of parental love and care except from my grandma.

I lost all my inheritance and parent's wealth to my wicked uncles.
Mona said as tears kept flowing.

The doctor and his wife kept listening.

I got admitted Into the tertiary institution at age 19 after performing well in my SSCE, courtesy, my old grandma who is late too.
Mona said, bursting Into serious cry.

The doctor's wife was almost in tears.
She managed to control it, blinking  her eyes fast.

In campus, I was doing well in my academics as late grandma struggled to give me all I needed.
Mona continued.

In my second year in school,
I was raped and got pregnant.
Mona continued after blowing her nose, and gasping for breathed.

I dropped out of school and came home without a trace of who took my virginity.

Grandma died out of this trauma.

   That baby there,
Mona said, pointing at Golden, is a result of the rape.

I became a mother at age 21 with no body to call my family.

Not to talk about the heartbreak and betrayal I had from those I called my best friend.

A friend I thought had been saved, I later discover he was pretending all along.

Fellowship members called me a disappointment for a sin I know nothing about.

The only friend I could tell my pain to, was the liar and pretender of all.

Got back in track as I tried to pick up the pieces of my life back.

(This time, the doctor's wife was already crying and the doctor was struggling with tears.)

    I got engaged.
Mona continued, still sobbing.

Now the handkerchief is soaked with tears and her eyes swollen beyond recognition.

Later I discovered that, that friend of mine who lied and pretended to be saved happens to be my fiancé's only brother, I managed to accept that in good fate.
Mona said laughing tearfully.

    But today!
Just today!
She emphasized, clapping her hands.

I discover that the rapist is my supposed brother in-law, the same friend back in campus.

    But that's not all,
My fiancé or said fiancé is aware of all these for God knows how long.

He is aware that my baby belongs to his younger brother, and he kept it away from me.

The only person I thought was my consolation is the brother to my nightmare, and now... The only family I have, is his daughter.
Mona said and broke down.

Mona was crying, this time, even more.
The doctor's wife was crying too as the doctor was still struggling with tears.

Felix arrived Mona's place and he went straight in.

He saw Kester pacing around the living room, looking worried and pressing his phone.

    Where's she??
Felix asked Kester without greeting.

Pat came out of her room too, looking worried.

.... To be continued.

De-starching the Leaves of a Plant

De-starching the Leaves of a Plant 'De-starch (or Destarch) the leaves of a potted plant' is one of the preliminary steps in a  photosynthesis experiment . Biology students often ask the following questions about de-starching. What is  the definition of de-starching? Why it is necessary to de-starch the leaves of a plant before conducting photosynthesis experiments? What happens to the starch stores when the potted plant is deprived of light or carbon dioxide? How to de-starch the leaves of a plant? What is the definition of de-starching? De-starching is the process by which the starch reserves in a plant are depleted by depriving the plant of either light or carbon dioxide.  Why is it necessary to de-starch the leaves of a plant before conducting photosynthesis experiments? We test for the presence  of starch  in leaves in order to determine that photosynthesis has occurred. Glucose -  the p...

Ethanol Emulsion Test for Fats and Oils

Ethanol Emulsion Test for Fats and Oils The  Ethanol Emulsion Test  is a  food test  which determines the presence of a broad group of naturally occurring compounds known as  lipids . Lipids consist of  fats  and  oils . Other lipid tests include the  Grease Spot Test  and the  Sudan Stain Test . The Grease spot test is performed on fats - lipids which are solid at room temperature. Sudan stain colours lipids red, but is a less common bench reagent than ethanol. The Ethanol Emulsion Test is the most common test amongst the three. Procedure Solid sample  Crush  the food sample and place in a dry test tube. Add ethanol  to about 2 cm3 above the level of the sample and shake thoroughly. Allow the solid to  settle  (about 3 min) to allow the lipid to be extracted. Decant  the ethanol into another test tube. Add 2 cm3 of  deionized water  to the second test tube ...
