**WHEN YOU WHERE THERE**
Episode 24.
Mona left straight to the village without picking anything from her lodge.

All attempts to reach Mona failed.
 Everyone was looking for her;
Kester,
His fellowship president,
Sis Pelline,
And the entire fellowship Mona attended before leaving for Kesters'.

Mona cried all the way till she arrived her home town.

She took a bike and headed straight to her grandma's house and knocked on the door.

An old woman came to open the door,
it was Mona's grandmother and the look on her face expresses surprise.

Mona mummy, what are you doing here? You didn't inform me you were coming,
Her grandmother said, hugging her from the shoulder.

Mona was cold and didn't respond to her questions or hug.

   Come in my dear,
Her grandmother ordered.

What's the matter with you Jewel?
She forwarded.
You haven't said a word to me since you came in,
Your eyes are so red and swollen,
have you been crying??
She asked, putting one hand on Mona's shoulder and using the other to raise Mona's chin up.

    Good evening grandma,
Mona struggled to speak and bursted out into a loud cry.

Her grandmother gave her a tight hug, trying to calm her down.

She pulled Mona aside and went into the kitchen.
She came out with a glass of mixed fruits, handed it over to Mona, and sat beside her, watching her.

Mona emptied the glass of juice and returned the glass  to her grandma, who sat watching.

She collected it and said, now go to your room, have your bath, change into something simple and sleep.

Mona managed to do all that and lay to sleep, but she couldn't sleep,
 her head was spinning.
She wished she was dreaming,
she held her pillow tight and sob.

Mona's grandmother noticed fast that her grand daughter was pregnant.
She also went into her room, weeping silently.

It was dinner time and grandma had ordered the maid to prepare Mona's favorite, jellof rice and fried plantain.

    Mummy, dinner is ready,
Come let's eat,
Her grandma called her, standing at her door.

Mona kept mute but made sign that she heard.
Few minutes later,  Mona joined her grandma in the dinning.

Its your favorite,
Grand-Ma said,
And well prepared,
I know you don't always see this type to eat in school,
Its either concoction or indomie,
My lazy princess,
Grandma tried to joke.

Hope you slept well? Grandma asked,
Knowing fully well that she didn't sleep.

Um! Mona nodded,
Staring at the food.

Mona eat please,
No matter what's wrong, no two people are buried in the same grave,
So eat your food,
Grandma pleaded.

   Mona tried but couldn't,
Am fine ma.
She said and left the dinning.
.....To be continued.

De-starching the Leaves of a Plant

De-starching the Leaves of a Plant 'De-starch (or Destarch) the leaves of a potted plant' is one of the preliminary steps in a  photosynthesis experiment . Biology students often ask the following questions about de-starching. What is  the definition of de-starching? Why it is necessary to de-starch the leaves of a plant before conducting photosynthesis experiments? What happens to the starch stores when the potted plant is deprived of light or carbon dioxide? How to de-starch the leaves of a plant? What is the definition of de-starching? De-starching is the process by which the starch reserves in a plant are depleted by depriving the plant of either light or carbon dioxide.  Why is it necessary to de-starch the leaves of a plant before conducting photosynthesis experiments? We test for the presence  of starch  in leaves in order to determine that photosynthesis has occurred. Glucose -  the product of photosynthe

Ethanol Emulsion Test for Fats and Oils

Ethanol Emulsion Test for Fats and Oils The  Ethanol Emulsion Test  is a  food test  which determines the presence of a broad group of naturally occurring compounds known as  lipids . Lipids consist of  fats  and  oils . Other lipid tests include the  Grease Spot Test  and the  Sudan Stain Test . The Grease spot test is performed on fats - lipids which are solid at room temperature. Sudan stain colours lipids red, but is a less common bench reagent than ethanol. The Ethanol Emulsion Test is the most common test amongst the three. Procedure Solid sample  Crush  the food sample and place in a dry test tube. Add ethanol  to about 2 cm3 above the level of the sample and shake thoroughly. Allow the solid to  settle  (about 3 min) to allow the lipid to be extracted. Decant  the ethanol into another test tube. Add 2 cm3 of  deionized water  to the second test tube Make observations. Liquid sample Add a  few drops  of the liquid food sample to a dry te
